Winter Outing

January 23-25, 1987

The Boy Scout and adult leaders of Troop 68 spent the weekend at Parker Scout Reservation near Brainerd, Minnesota, for a weekend of fun in the snow. Unfortunately, we don't have many snow pictures so we give you these pictures which where taken inside the administration building in which the troop stayed.

Ripley Rendezvous
March 27-29, 1987

Sixteen members of Melrose Boy Scout Troop 68 attended the annual Ripley Rendezvous held at the Camp Ripley National Guard Base in central Minnesota. This event is sponsored by the Central Minnesota Council. Hundreds of Boy Scouts from the four districts particpate in this weekend outing which featured sporting compititions. The troops ate in the dining hall of the barracks. All the guys had a great time.

The food was good.	The group from Troop 68.	A small grass fire occured near the troop.	Volleyball was one of the events.

March Court of Honor
March 30, 1987

The troop held its first court of honor for 1987 at the VFW Clubrooms in downtown Melrose. The awards ceremony was well attended by the Scouts and their families. Quite a few awards were presented.

The opening featured the advancement ranks.	Merit badges were presented.	Shawn D. earned his Tenderfoot.	Chad R. received a rank.
Tony B. received a rank.	Gerry W. also received a rank.	Ross F. received a special award.	Ray Zenzen was presented with an award for his service to Scouting.

Webelos Graduation
April 30, 1987

There was a large group of Webelos Scouts that graduated from Melrose Cub Pack 68 to Boy Scout Troop 68 in the spring of 1987. The ceremony was held at the Melrose Junior High School cafeteria. Boy Scouts were tied to their younger "Scout Brother" and pledged to help the new Scouts through their first year of Boy Scouting.

Tree Planting
May 7, 1987

The Boy Scouts were asked to assist in planting tree seedlings in the Jaycee Park which is located on the west side of town, near the hospital.

Camp Watchamagumee
May 19-21, 1987

Thirteen members of Melrose Boy Scout Troop 68 spent the weekend at Camp Watchamagumee, located north of Melrose of private property. It is one of the troop's favortite places to go camping. The boys spend Saturday morning working on skills. In the afternoon they play games and have freetime. In the evening the troop holds in campfire program.

May Court of Honor
May 25, 1987

Boy Scout Troop 68 help its May court of honor at the Melrose Senior High School Little Theater, which was nice since it had a stage we could use.

Two members from the VFW post were on hand.

June Canoe Trip
June 19-21, 1987

Weekend canoe trips were a popular event for the troop for a few years. In 1987 we took a trip down the Kettle River in Minnesota. We had a large group of Boy Scouts and their fathers attend this outing which began Friday and ended on Sunday. The water level may have been a little low in some areas but that did not dampen our fun.

Summer Camp
July 16-22, 1987

Eighteen mebers of Melrose Boy Scout Troop 68 attended a week-long summer camp at Many Point Scout Camp in northern Minnesota. The troop stayed in the Tyler Campsite, in the Bucksin Camp. A couple of the highlights for the boys were the new climbing tower and horseback riding. Of course, the other areas of camp were always busy also.

Halloween Party
October 31, 1987

The troop celebrated Halloween by going rollerskating at the Skatin' Place in St. Cloud, and then stopped for a visit to the haunted house (school) in Freeport. It was a scary good time.

The outing started with rollerskating.

Supper was at the Pizza Hut.

We were greeted by the ghouls at the haunted house.

Of course, being Boy Scouts, we made new friends.

Chris A.'s 18th Birthday Party
November 23, 1987

When Chris A., a member of the troop, turned 18 years old we decided to have a birthday party. The party was held at the scoutmaster's residence.

Christmas Party
December 19, 1987

Every year the Boy Scouts of Troop 68 get together to celebrate Christmas. There is a lot of food to eat, soda to drink, and movies to watch. And, of course, there is a gift exchange.

December Court of Honor
December 21, 1987

The last court of honor for the year was held at the Melrose Sebior High School Little Theater. After the award ceremony the troop auction was held in which the Boy Scouts used "troop bucks" to bid on various prizes.
