Science Museum Trip

The Boy Scouts made a trip to St. Paul to see the wonders at the Minnesota Science Museum. There was a lot to see and learn. Unfortunately, we were so busy looking and learning that we did not get very many pictures.

Blue and Gold Banquet

February 1983

The Cub Pack's Blue and Gold Banquet was very well attended. Many of the Cub Scouts and Webelos received awards. The Pack's first Tiger Cub group was also in attendance. (Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures, but we can only post what we have to work with.)

March Court of Honor

March 7, 1983

The troop held its spring court of honor at the VFW Post 7040 clubroom. Several of the boys received recognition for awards they had earned. The VFW Post presented the troop with new flag stands. The patrol leader council recognized three committee members for all the work they have done toward the troop functions.

Ripley Rendezvous

March 25-27, 1983

The Ripley Rendezvous is an annual event carried out by the Central Minnesota Council with the assistance of the Camp Ripley National Guard Base. Hundreds of Boy Scouts attend the weekend outing and compete in various competitions and have a lot of fun.

Rock Climbing Outing

April 22-24, 1983

The Boy Scouts of Troop 68 went on quite an adventure when they found a couple of experienced rock climbers who met them at Taylor Falls and taught them the ropes about climbing cliffs. (Pun intended.) The boys, and their dads, had a great time as they discovered the fun of climbing the cliffs. Belay on!

Summer Camp

July 17-23, 1983

Crow Wing Scout Camp was the place to be for a week of Scouting for the Boy Scouts of Melrose Troop 68. As you can see from the pictures, they had a great time once again at camp.

The troop, minus the two who arrived late for the picture session.	When we arrived at Crow Wing it was time to unload the camper of gear.	The Tiger Patrol: Brian, Corey, Robert, Gerry, Steve, and Chris.	The Warrior Patrol: Jeff, Scott, Kevin, and Jon.
The Flying Eagle Patrol: Matt, Sean, Steve, Steve, Mike, Jeremy, and Joe.	Jeff shows off his award winning pie make at Scoutcraft.	The tents did not have floors, so we used matts on the ground.	Scott works on his pioneering merit badge.
The Scouts work on their requirements during some free time.	Log cutting was one of the Friday afternoon competition stations.	You have heard of a balance beam? How about a balance log?	How fast can your patrol make a human pyramid?

Fall Camporee

Sept. 30 - Oct. 2, 1983

The Scenic District fall camporee was held at the St. Cloud Airport. No, not on the runway, but in a wooded area away from the terminal. This was the only time I believe the camporee was ever held at this location.

The campsite was nearly hidden among the fall foliage and trees.

The Boy Scouts work on a pioneering project for the campsite.

SCAMHAF Camporee

October 28-30, 1983

The Birch Lake State Forest Campground located north of Melrose, Minnesota, was the site of a mini camporee of local troops in the western portion of Stearns County. The troops from Sauk Centre, Albany, Melrose, Holdingford, Avon, and Freeport attended the event.

Mike Rosner, unit commissioner, was the coordinator of this event.	The Melrose Boy Scouts prepare a meal.	A priest from Melrose came out to the camp to celebrate mass with the Catholic Scouts.	The Boy Scouts from Albany.

December Court of Honor

December 19, 1983

The December court of honor was held in the senior high school little theater, which happened to be decorated nicely for a Christmas pageant.

The troop sang a Christmas carol during the evening's program.

Jeff received a rank during the ceremony.
