It was time for some new group photos of the membership of Boy Scout Troop 68. Unfortunately, we could not get everyone to show up at one meeting so we took pictures during two troop meetings. And we still did not get everyone.

January Outing
January 26, 2013

The January outing needed to be revised from the yearly program schedule so the Scouts planned a one day competition in which they played each other in table tennis, darts, chess, and Wii golf. The guys had a good time and even had a chance to play with a few puppets.

March Court of Honor
March 25, 2013

Boy Scout Troop 68 held its first court of honor of the year at the Melrose City Hall meeting rooms. There were a decent number of awards to present for a March court of honor, which means the Scouts were busy during the previous three months. The troop also officially welcomed two new members.

Tom S. Eagle Board of Review
April 10, 2013

Thomas Schwinghamer had his Eagle board of review in St. Cloud. Jim, his scoutmaster, along with Steve, a committee member, and his parents attended the review.

Camp Watchamagumee
May 17-19, 2013

Six Boy Scouts of Troop 68, including four new Scouts, spend a wet weekend at Camp Watchamagumee. Luckily for them, most of Saturday turned out to be a decent and dry day, but both evenings saw plenty of rain. During the day the Scouts played disc golf and competed in two competitions: the annual egg drop contest and a fire building race in which the boys used flint and steel to start their fires. While sitting around the campfire Saturday night the new Scouts heard the story of the Purple Gorilla and learned how to stay safe from wolfen attacks. Some of the boys slept in their primitive shelters Saturday night.

June Court of Honor
June 24, 2013

The troop held it's summer court of honor at the Melrose City Hall meeting rooms on June 24. Several of the Boy Scouts had worked hard since march and received merit badges and finished various ranks. The Scouts performed the "Expectant Fathers" skit for the entertainment of the family members.

Parade Flag Handouts
June 29, 2013

The troop's sponsor, VFW Post 7050, purchased small United States of America flags for the Boy Scouts to hand out along the 1.5 mile parade route before the parade began. The Scouts handed out nearly 1000 flags to children and families who came to see the parade in Melrose, Minnesota.

Summer Camp (Many Point Scout Camp)
July 14-20, 2013

Six members of Boy Scout Troop 68 spent the week at Many Point Scout Camp. They stayed at the Seton Campsite in the Buckskin Camp. Assistant scoutmaster Eymard was with the Scouts once again, marking his 25th year attending a summer camp. Joining him were his son Peter for the first few days, and than Paul, one of the Scouts parents, joined the troop for the rest of the week. The Scouts had a great time at camp. Most of these pictures were from Monday, July 15.

There is always something to learn and do at the Handicrafts Lodge.	A new program this year had the Scouts learning about levers and pulleys.	No, they are not making mash potatoes for dinner.	A marble and some open tubing. Can the Scouts rig up an interesting track?
Suddenly, the track building becomes a troop project instead of individual projects.	There was a little rain Monday afternoon.	Time for a game of cards.	Paul, one of the Boy Scouts' fathers, joins the troop for the rest of the week.

Thomas Schwinghamer Eagle Court of Honor
August 17, 2013

Thomas Schwinghamer held his Eagle Scout Court of Honor at his home in Sauk Centre on Saturday, August 17. Scouts from both troops of which he was a member were on hand for the events, along with family, cousins, and friends. It was a good ceremony followed by good food and refreshments.

Assistant scoutmaster Eymard leads the invocation.	Thomas' former scoutmaster of the Sauk Centre troop served as master of ceremony.	Members of a few troops participated in the ceremony.	The ceremony included the lighting of a campfire.

Minnesota State Fair Outing
August 24, 2013

Six Boy Scouts of Melrose Troop 68 spent the day at the Minnesota Great Get Together and had a fun but tiring day. Rides, games, exploring, and deep fried food will do that to you.

It looks like everyone is tall enough for this ride.	Around and around and around they go...	One Scout had to try the ring toss.	Another Scout had to try his skill and shooting baskets.
Timeout for a picture with Smokey the Bear.	Checking all the fish in the pond near the DNR building.	The Viking Council had a booth at the state fair.	Yes, that is a deep fried twinkie. And yes, he said it was good.

Fall Court of Honor
September 23, 2013

It was a good fall Court of Honor held to recognize the members of Melrose Boy Scout Troop 68. It was a chance to recognize those Scout who earned merit badges at summer camp, new Scouts who have joined the troop, and Scouts who had completed their ranks.

A candle lighting ceremony opened the court of honor.	Adrian received merit badges from summer camp.	Zack also received merit badge earned at camp.	Daniel receives his merit badges.
Alex receives his merit badges.	Most of the troop was in attendance.	The Boy Scout challenged the adults in a game of pictionary.	Jacob is presented with his Scout Badge.
Cater is presented with his Scout Badge.	Zack received his Tenderfoot Rank.	Daniel received the rank of First Class Scout.	Alex and Daniel tied for the Progressive Scout Award.

Fall Activities
October 5-6, 2013

Scouting For Food drive, fall road cleanup, and the fall Dad's Belgian Waffle breakfast fundfaiser. All three events fell on the same weekend. Busy troop.

Alex's Eagle Project
October 12, 2013

Alex E. decided to help out the local chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunter's Association for his Eagle Scout Project. He fixed a couple of the deer hide collection boxes and had several new ones built. They were completed just in time for the Minnesota deer hunting season.
