Scouting Displays
February 3-16, 2012

The members of Troop 68 set up four displays around town to celebrate the 102 anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

This display would be set up at the US Bank in Melrose.

This display was set up in the Melrose City Hall lobby.

This was the display at the Freeport State Bank, Melrose Branch.

This display was found at the Central Minnesota Credit Union in Melrose.

Scoutmaster Retirement Party
February 25. 2012

Boy Scout Troop 68 held a party for the retirement of Scoutmaster Steve Borgerding who served the troop for 30 years in that position. The party was held at the Melrose American Legion. Present troop members and their families attended as did many troop alumni. It was a great time to look back and reminisce about three decades of the Boy Scout program in Melrose. There was a presentation of a Norman Rockwell print and a chance for many Troop 68 alumni to stand up and speak about Scoutmaster Steve.

Camp Stearns Weekend
March 2-4, 2012

The snow was a little ice like but the Boy Scouts of Troop 68 had a good time at Camp Stearns once again. Activities included sledding, disc golf, matchless fire starting, games, movies, and a chance to work on advancement. It was the last weekend of snow in central Minnesota, so it was a good thing we did not go to winter camp any later.

March Court of Honor
March 26, 2012

The troop's first court of honor of the year was held on March 26 at the Melrose City Hall meeting rooms. In addition to the award presentations and a skit performed by two troop members we welcomed a newly graduated Boy Scout into the troop.

Darren B. Eagle Court of Honor
April 1, 2012

Darren Borgerding's Eagle Court of Honor was held in Sauk Centre on Sunday, April 1st. A good crowd was in attendance. Both of Darren's scoutmasters were on hand to help with the ceremony. Of course, like many Eagle ceremonies, things did get emotional a couple times.

River Cleanup Project
April 9, 2012

The shoreline of the Sauk River, which passes through Melrose, was getting very trashy so the troop took time during one of their troop meetings to pickup some of the garbage near the city hall, a parking lot, the dam, and the city park.

Melrose Area Museum Visit
May 7, 2012

The troop's theme for the month of May was local history, so what better way to spend two meetings would there be than to visit the Melrose Area History Museum. The Boy Scouts had two floors of history to discovery and explore. Needless to say, both the Boy Scouts of Melrose Troop 68 and their parents learned a few things.

Camp Watchamagumee
May 11-13, 2012

For over two dozen years the Boy Scouts of Troop 68 have been camping on private land several miles north of Melrose, at a site the Scouts have named Camp Watchamagumee. It is one of the boys favorite places to camp each spring of the year. Another tradition has been added to this outing, the egg drop competition. Who can create the best package out of natural materials that will protect an unboiled egg the longest?

June Court of Honor
June 25, 2012

Considering that the troop had not yet attended summer camp, the boys did a great job of working on their advancements and ranks since the last court of honor. It was almost like a court of honor following a good week of summer camp.

Many Point Scout Camp
July 8-14, 2012

Only three Boy Scouts of Troop 68 attended a week long camp at Many Point Scout Camp but they have a great time and came home with quite a few merit badges and advancement requirements accomplished. Here are a few pictures of activities along with a couple of camp improvements.

Yearly Planning Session
August 4, 2012

Each year the youth leadership of Boy Scout Troop 68 comes together for a Saturday in August to plan out the new program year. During this one year event they will plan the themes and events for the next twelve months. The troop's program year is from September to August, simular to a school year.

Geocaching
September, 2012

This year the troop decided to take a month of meetings and learn about geocaching. A merit badge councilor came to a meeting to demonstrate how to work a GPS, and talk to the Boy Scouts about the merit badge requirements. During the monthly activity a couple members of the troop placed a new geocache within the city of Melrose.

LPMRB Outing
November 17, 2012

The LPMRB outing is a full day of various activities. The Boy Scouts will go rollerskating, play laser tag, watch movies, eat pizza, and then finish with late night bowling. It rounds out to nearly twelve hours jam packed of fun and fellowship. Here are a few pictures taken while we were bowling.

December Court of Honor
December 17, 2012

The final court of honor of the year was held at the city hall meeting rooms once again. The ceremony was followed by the troop's annual troop auction in which the Boy Scouts use the Troop Bucks earned during the year to bid on various prizes. This was also the court of honor that the old scoutmaster helped the new scoutmaster with the ceremony.
