The Overnighter
January 23-24, 2010

The Boy Scouts of Troop love to have fun and compete with each other. That is probably way the troop's overnighter activity is so popular. This 13 hour all-night activity has the Scouts competing in several contests including table tennis, darts, Wii bowling, chess and Battleship. Then there are the movies to watch. Oh, and don't forget all the pizzas and snacks and soda to consume. There is a lot to stay busy with during this troop activity.

Pool was one of the competitions during the activity. Chess was played in the back corner.

We discovered that none of us are going to make a living by playing pool.

Of course, there was plenty of food and drink during the activity.

Wii tennis was also a popular pastime.

Scouting Displays
February, 2010

Scoutmaster Steve placed a few displays around town in February to highlight the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America and 30 continuous years of Boy Scout Troop 68 in Melrose.

This shadow box showcased three different
sets of rank patches.

This display in the US Bank lobby highlighted the troop's high adventure trips.

This display in the Freeport State Bank
highlighted the 2001 National Jamboree.

The display in the Central Minnesota Federal Credit Union was all about Scouting history.

Camp Stearns Outing
February 26-28, 2010

Four members of Boy Scout Troop 68 attended the weekend outing at Camp Stearns. Disc golf, snowshoeing, sledding, Risk, and movies were some of the activities during the weekend. The weather was great. It fact, it got too warm. The broomball field turned into a mud field so we did not play that this year.

How about a game of Risk on Friday?	Cooking was done in the lodge's kitchen.	There was plenty of food. No one went away hungry.	Disc golf was more challenging while wearing snowshoes.
We did get a bit confused a couple of times on the golf course.	It takes a little practice to get the hang of wearing snowshoes.	Time to clean the building before leaving Sunday morning.	These are the guys who attended the outing at Camp Stearns.

Alex Kleinfehn's Eagle Court Of Honor
March 6, 2010

The Eagle Scout court of honor for Alex was held at the Melrose Firehall meeting room on Saturday, March 6. Nearly 80 attended the ceremony, including six Eagles Scouts. The ceremony went very well. Memorabilia about Alex's years in Scouting was found on this table.	Almost looks too good to eat, doesn't it?	Four Troop 68 Eagle Scout alumni attended the court f honor.	Alex spoke to the audience during the ceremony.

March Waffle Supper Fundraiser
March 26, 2010

Boy Scout Troop 68 usually holds a pancake and sausage breakfast on Palm Sunday each year, but due to the troop size currently on the small size we tried a Friday night waffle supper this spring featuring Dad's Belgian Waffles. It actually went very well. So well in fact that we already signed up for another one next spring.

The Boy Scouts worked hard.

Setting tables and cleaning off tables were the Boy Scouts' responsibility.

With all these waffle irons in use people did not have to wait long.

There were plenty of toppings, of course.

March Overnighter
March 26, 2010

After the supper fundraiser, the Boy Scout headed to the home of their scoutmaster for an overnight activity. The Boy Scout had fun playing table tennis, chess, darts, Wii games, and watching movies. Everyone was pretty tired when they went home at 7:00 Saturday morning.

Wii archery was a popular activity.

The Boy Scouts were getting pretty good.

There was time for a card game, or two.

March Court of Honor
March 29, 2010

The troop's first court of honor for the year was held at the Melrose City Hall meeting rooms. The district executive visited the meeting for an FOS presentation.

The court of honor began with a
Scout Law candle ceremony.

Two Boy Scouts received their
three year pins.

Zack received his Scout Rank and
pins the mother's pin to his mother.

Jonah received the rank of Star Scout.

A Bison Skull?
March 31, 2010

We are not sure, but we think Avery found a bison skull near his home. He plans to donate it to the Melrose Area Historical Museum.

Ripley Rendezvous
April 23-25, 2010

Four members of Boy Scout Troop 68 attending this year's Ripley Rendezvous. The event is sponsored by the Central Minnesota Council and the Camp Ripley military base. Activities were divided into three areas depending on the age of the Boy Scout. Unfortunately, it rained during most of the day Saturday, but the boys still had a good time.

There was time to play cards Friday night.	One of the Saturday morning displays was chainsaw sculptures.	Archery was a popular station.	Group skiing was very challenging.
The Boy Scouts tried semaphore at one station.	There was time Saturday night to play cards also.	As part of the winning group he took home a new fishing rod and hat.	Why so serious???
