Winter Camp at Parker Scout Reservation
January 1986

The troop had a fun time at Parker when they held their winter outing. The troop rented one of the buildings to stay in, thinking it would be warmer. However, the furnace did not work so the only source of heat was the fireplace which let most of the heat go right up the chimney. Oh well, it may not have been warm but at least it was dry.

One of the activities was to attempt making snow shelters.

The warriors patrol paused for a picture during the skiing fun.

It appears that the troop needs a lesson on good housekeeping.

Ripley Rendezvous
April 4-6, 1986

The Ripley Rendezvous is an annual event in central Minnesota. Hundreds of Scouts participate in the activity. Various tournaments and shows were held throughout the weekend.

Dave, on the left, tries his hand at winning during the checkers tournament held Friday night.

Paul watches as Scott cuts his birthday cake that the troop surprised him with on Saturday.

What a great looking crew!

Pioneering Camping Trip
April 25-27, 1986

Before it became know as Camp Watchamagumee, the place was simply know as Klassen's land. But however you call it, it was always a favorite place to go camping. During this weekend we choose a theme of pioneering. The troop practiced their lashings as they built several projects.

The camp was built along a large beaver pond. Individual campsites had not been cleared yet so we placed the tents wherever there was room.

We placed a rope across a small pond located just outside of our camp. The Scouts had a great time climbing across it, just bearing keeping their heads dry.

Of course, all Scouts get hungry and our members are no different. Scott and Chris prepare a delicious meal (lol) in their patrol site.

Scout Expo
May 3, 1986

The Scout Expo is held each spring in the Central Minnesota Council. This year we decided to take our skills outside and make a signal tower for all to see as they drove by the civic center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. We didn't win a placement ribbon, but we did have fun.

The tower is started.

It is almost completed.

It is time to set it upright.

John and Sean worked hard to get the tower ready.

The tower is completed and standing. Looks nice.

Cub Pack 68 had a booth inside the civic center, along with other troops and packs from around the council.

Primitive Camp
May 16-18, 1986

Leave the tents at home and make your own shelters. That was the theme behind this outing. Menus were planned to use as few cooking utensils as possible. This outing was the second time we went to Klassen's land this spring.

Branches covered with tarps made up must of the shelters used.

Wake up Scouts! The guys slept very well under the shelters.

It took the guys just as long to get up this weekend as it does when they use tents.

Halloween Party
November 15, 1986

Parties are always fun. Add costumes and pool and you are in for an interesting time. Troop 68 had a lot of fun during the Halloween party held this year.

Many of the crew came dressed for the costume contest. Some guys were dressed pretty interesting.

Bobbing for apples was a popular event, even if it did make a bit of a wet mess of the Scouts and the floor.

Would you like this guy to be your scoutmaster?

Court of Honor
December 15, 1986

The last court of honor of 1986 ended on a good note with several Scouts receiving ranks and merit badges. The award ceremony was held at the Little Theater of the Senior High School. A tradition of the troop is that Scouts who receive a rank present their mother with a mother's pin of the same rank.

Andrew received his Second Class Award, and pins the Second Class pin on his mother's shirt.

Josh also received his Second Class Award, and pinned the Second Class pin on his mother's shirt.

Dave received the rank of First Class, and also gets to do the pin thing.
